Over a defined period of time, the TriMin consultant became intimately involved in the customer's daily planning and scheduling activities and addressed the information needs of the various manufacturing system employees to help them utilize standard system capabilities to get the information they needed to perform their jobs better.
Custom code was eliminated as well, as employees learned to utilize built in application functions. Employees were given the responsibility for their "system". With each one-on-one session there was a transfer of knowledge to the employe so they were prepared to solve their own questions and future information needs.
Within 3 months, this customer reported that shortages were nearly eliminated and schedule adherence rose into the upper 90%'s. Inventory dropped sharply (30%). Customer backorders dropped by over 50%. Shipping performance rose into the upper 90%'s.
Training alone would not have been sufficient to attain these business objectives. This situation required an intensive effort with employees adopting new waste-free ways of doing their jobs. The cost of the consulting and training has been re-paid many times over in value received by the company.
